The Hollywood Reporter announces today that Ehren Kruger ("The Ring," "Scream 3) will join the writing team of Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci for "Transformers 2," which Paramount is hoping for a 2009 release. Kruger reportedly impressed Bay with his knowledge of the Transformers mythology.
Also expected to return are director Michael Bay, star Shia LaBeouf and producers Tom DeSanto, Lorenzo di Bonaventura and Don Murphy, and executive producer Steven Spielberg in their respective roles. Recent chatter seemed to indicate that Bay was considering leaving the project but that no longer appears to be the case.
The deal is said to be in the $5-$7 million range, which is very high and unusual, but the team is looking to get a script together before a potential writers strike happens next year
